An Attack Roll is a process a character must take to use attacks and/or abilities that target another creature or entity with an Evasion and/or Deflection score. Against anything else, it is a Target number of 6 or higher. Rolling lower than 6 is treated as 'missing' even if the target is stationary and not affecting the character's ability to aim.

The term 'ToHit' is a bonus to succeed against a target's Evasion/Deflection, much like how Skill bonuses help with Skill check Target-Numbers.

The Attack Roll

To attack a target, roll d12 then add your character's Metaphor bonuses and anything else that can add to their ToHit. If the result is equal or greater to the target's Evasion, they hit. If they beat the target's Deflection, they get a direct hit (avoiding Deflection effects).

[ Total ToHit = d12 + Metaphor Bonuses + Other Modifiers ]

Critical Hit

Rolling a 12 on a normal d12 causes it to Explode as normal. Except when it comes to Attack rolls and attacks in general, this creates additional effects.

The Meta-die created becomes a Versatile Bonus that can be applied to any believable aspect of the interaction. Damage is increased or multiplied based on circumstance and features available to the weapon or action taken, by default a critical hit doubles damage dealt after all other modifiers.

If the critically hit target is bigger than the user, they can deal an additional 100% damage up to the target's Size-Rating based on the Meta-die's result instead of any other V-Bonus. The Size Damage multiplier can't exceed the target's own Size rating and the Size Difference between the two targets reduces the maximum multiplier by their difference between the two.

"A human warrior fights against a Size 8 Beast, they score a critical hit against them. Instead of merely dealing double damage, they can use their Versatile Bonus to multiply their damage by their result up to the Beast's size. If they rolled a 5, they would deal x5 damage to the beast, but if they rolled 9 or higher, they would only deal x8 damage instead. If the Warrior were a Size 4 Giant, then they could only score up to +400% damage through this mechanic."/small>
