Exert is a keyword used to indicate how many points of Exertion a character takes, it is usually denoted with a value such as Exert 1. Exert can be gained either through the use of powers and abilities, or as a natural hazard present in the game world.

Exert Cost

The default Exert for using abilities is 1, unless otherwise specified. Exert is not a cost unless it is mentioned by keyword.

An alternate cost type called Tension is a temporary Exert used primarily in channelled abilities. It functions the same way as Exert except that when the ability is no longer channelled, the Tension value is also removed. The default Tension value for a channelled ability is 10.

Exert Examples

Exert can be gained in a number of ways including
♦ Using Abilities that require the character to Exert X.
♦ Using game mechanics that use Exert to benefit from them.
♦ As part of world exploration and the passage of time.

Ways to cleanse a character of Exert include
♦ Exposed to abilities or items that remove points of Exert.
♦ Engaging in Rest activities.
