In both versions of the Metaforce system, but especially in the physical version, Meta Cards are used to represent a character's extras in an itemised format, including their Metaphors, Items, Equipment and anything else that isn't numerically embedded within a character's sheet (Attributes, Core Values...etc). Cards are kept with a character sheet and can be laid and played whenever appropriate. Cards are colour-coded and marked with symbols to help differentiate the card categories.
Metaphor Cards
Metaphor cards are used to store information about the functions and rank of a Metaphor. In addition, Metaphor Component/Feature cards can be stacked with them to reference information of components that work with the Metaphor they're attached to.
Item and Equipment Cards
Various items and equipment a character carries can also be itemised into Meta Cards, although this approach is better with Equipment as they can be equipped to a character's body slots, whereas Items can often be better recorded in the character's Inventory list along with their item weight for calculating encumbrance. The use of Cards for items can be good for tracking consumption, like Potions and Rations. Used cards can be given back to the Game-Master and a physical representation of an item can remind players of their existence.
Technique Cards
Technique or Tech cards are used to itemized specific powers, skills and abilities not contained within a character's Metaphors. Good examples include Spells for spellcasters (A spellcasting Metaphor is required). Or learned special attacks, powers and anything that is worth noting down the specifics. Technique cards always have a key Attribute and most likely are linked to a specific Metaphor. Technique cards can also be called Power or Ability cards, what's important is that it represents something that the character can do which wouldn't fit in a Metaphor or their Trait/Passives section of their character sheet.
