Shops are places that a character can request services and goods in exchange for money or favours. The presence of shops will vary between worlds and settings, but some guidelines set here can help you understand Shop creation rules. Shop ScalingShop Scaling is a way to quickly create shop templates to determine available stock. Base LevelA Shop's Base Level determines what items and equipment can be purchased immediately, if the player can afford it. A shop's Base Level uses any available Item Lists, and any items of its level or lower can be acquired here. "The General store sells all kinds of consumable items, from potions to antidotes and even some drinks and food packs. Since they're a relatively simple shop in a village, their Base Level is 2. Adventurers can acquire any item of Level 2 or lower here if they look." Request LevelSome shops have sources or connections that allow them to request items beyond their normal selection. A shop can acquire items up to their Request level, which must be higher than their Base Level. Depending on the setting the time taken to obtain the item may vary, the player character will always have to pay in advance. "The same General Store does have a connection with the nearby town, if the adventurers can't afford to travel away to reach it, the General store has a Request level of 3. Adventurers can wait two days to obtain any Level 3 items from this shop." Special SelectionSome shops will have unique items not found elsewhere. These unique items will be displayed in the shop's description under their Special selection list, along with its price, stats and features. This is a good way for shops to have relevance even if they would normally be overlooked by prepared characters. Special Selection items do not need to follow the Shop Scaling rules as they are unique additions to the shop's stock. "The Weapon Shop in the village is able to sell basic weapons and do repairs. In their special selection they have a special enchanted Sword with an Echo Metaphor Component. The owner is willing to part with the sword for a moderate amount of money. The Weapon Shop is Base Level 2 but the Sword itself is a higher level." Shop TypesShop types are not so much about what is sold, but how services are rendered to the player character: Retail ShopsTypically sell Items and Equipment to characters that they can take with them. Consumables are also sold at these kind of shops too. Depending on the vendor, some shops will also buy from player characters, though sometimes they only buy certain items or refuse entirely. Modification ShopsService-type shops that take items or equipment a character owns and enhances/modifies it for a fee. If it is an enhancable item or equipment the player may be able to choose what changes are made to it. Service often asks payment up front, or the item may be held for collateral.
