New page

Training Points are a special resource a character gains at 1st level and every level afterwards. It is a Catalyst required to take advantage of some character progression options, alternative Catalysts require roleplay and storytelling in order to achieve.

Generally, any option that specifies the use of a Training Point can only be performed by spending a Training Point, but if pure Experience-based options exist, then Training points are not required.

TP Usage
The number of ways a character can use a Training Point is as follows:

Raise Attribute Rank
A character can raise an Attribute score of theirs by one by spending one TP plus an amount of experience equal to the rank desired. So if one wants to raise their attribute from 1 to 2, that will be 1 TP plus 2 experience.

Unlike the Attribute point given at a level up, the character can't raise an Attribute above their level using TP. Attributes can't be raised above 6 until they reach Level 7 or higher.

Learn New Metaphor
A character can obtain a new Metaphor for any skill or power that they have access to learn (if it is a universal Metaphor, they can be self-taught). There may be special restrictions to other Metaphors being taught such as magic or those gained from unnatural means. The newly created Metaphor manifests at Rank 1 with one Metaphor Component Rank.

If self-taught and without a narrative Catalyst, the XP cost to learn a new Metaphor is either half the number of Metaphors known divided by 2 (rounded up). Or, one Training Point.

"If a character has 7 Metaphors and wants to learn an 8th, they can either spend 4 XP (7 / 2 = 3.5 ↑4), or they can spend one Training point. The resulting Metaphor is the same: a rank one Metaphor with one Component rank."

Obtain Arc Feature
Normally Arc Features can only be obtained at their respective levels, however if the character is able to meet the requirements of an Arc feature's minimum level and is able to pay the experience cost, they can acquire additional Arc features with Training Points.

The cost to obtain one is one TP plus XP equal to the Level requirement of an Arc feature. So, if an Arc feature has a minimum level of 4, it will cost 4 XP to obtain.

Unlock M-Power Slot
Normally M-Power slots unlock at odd levels, but more slots can be obtained using Training points. The cost is one TP plus XP equal to the number of M-Power slots owned. So if a character has 2 M-Power slots, it will cost them 2 XP to obtain the third.

Proficiency in Attribute
TP and some XP can be used to raise a character's Proficiency in an Attribute. Proficiency in an Attribute allows all activities involving that Attribute to be treated as +1 Advantage (non-stacking), and be able to be rolled as Attribute dice without the need to Exert.

The cost to raise an Attribute to Proficient from nothing is one TP plus 6 XP. This only works on Attributes without Proficiency or Expertise.

Expertise in Attribute
Similarly to the above, this can raise a character's Proficient Attribute to Expertise. Attributes with Expertise may add the character's Level as a Versatile Bonus to any activities involving this Attribute. If rolling Disadvantage or worse on a check, the character gains +1 Advantage state (up to Normal rolling).

The cost to obtain this is one TP plus 12 XP. This boost can only be applied to an Attribute which the character is Proficient.

Gaining more TP
Aside from level-ups, the only other way to obtain Training points is through great acts or intense training. A Training point is the itemisation of a Catalyst, a trigger of change within a character. So a Game-Master may give characters a Training point as a wildcard upon completion of a significant task or quest.
